Iranian state TV has read a statement from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) confirming dozens of missiles have been launched towards Israel today, October 1st, and threatening with another attack if Israel responds. Iran has effectively attacked Israel, deepening the crisis in the Middle East.

The IRGC has described the missile attack as retaliation for the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in July, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in Lebanon last Friday, and the killing of Lebanese and Palestinian people in recent weeks. The attack was said to target important bases, and the regime is due to reveal further details later.

As of right now, missiles have been seen above Tel Aviv and both northern and southern Israel.

Israelis have now looked for shelter over attacks in northern Israel

At approximately 6 p.m. local time, Israelis sought coverage in northern Israel after Iran launched yet another missile attack. The area where the IDF launched its invasion of Lebanon on Monday has been particularly under fire.

When northern Israel was attacked, it was unclear whether missiles were launched from Lebanon by Hezbollah or by Iran, but the Iranian attack has since been confirmed.

The BBC has also confirmed that the United States has intercepted some of the missiles coming from Iran, helping defend Israel. There is no more official information available at the moment.

Southern Israel was also attacked by Iran

It has also been widely reported that southern Israel was attacked by missiles, but the Iron Dome largely protected the local population.

Locals received an alert on their phones saying: “Emergency alert. You must enter a protected area immediately and remain there until further notice from the home front command.” This message was labeled by Israeli officials as “life-saving instructions.”

Ashkelon was also attacked in southern Israel. The attack, however, was rather short-lived, as by 6:42 p.m. local time, the IDF informed people they could leave the bunkers, saying they were “permitted to leave protected spaces in all areas across the country.” The IDF has also requested that the public fully cooperate by following home front commands.

It has been reported by the BBC that the attack is now over. It was watched and even celebrated by some in the Gaza Strip and West Bank.

No reports of serious injuries, IDF announces there will be consequences

Israeli emergency services say there have been no reports of serious injuries. A spokesperson for Magen David Adom, Israel’s national emergency medical, disaster, and ambulance service, said that despite paramedics being deployed to several sights where rockets hit, people are generally okay.

The spokesperson also added, “Currently, there are no reports of injuries from the fire towards Israel, except for two light injuries from shrapnel in the Tel Aviv area and some minor injuries nationwide while moving to safe spaces, as well as cases of anxiety.”

Additionally, the IDF has declared that this attack will have consequences, as spokesman Daniel Hagari said, “We are on high alert both defensively and offensively. We will defend the citizens of the State of Israel. This attack will have consequences. We have plans, and we will operate at the place and time we decide.”
