Hollywood legend Anthony Hopkins has taken the internet by storm, dancing to the rhythm of Greek syrtaki in a video posted on his Instagram account.

The acting legend impressed hundreds of thousands of people not with his acting prowess this time but with his dance moves. The 86-year-old star recently posted a video on his Instagram account showing great enthusiasm for Greek culture and dance.

In the video, Hopkins can be seen excitedly dancing syrtaki, a world-famous and popular Greek dance, to the iconic tune of “Zorba’s Dance,” by Mikis Theodorakis.

This famous Greek melody was first featured in the 1964 film Zorba the Greek and has since become synonymous with Greek culture worldwide.

Syrtaki (also spelled “sirtaki”) is a relatively modern Greek dance that was actually originally choreographed specifically for the film Zorba the Greek. It combines elements of other traditional Greek dances with much deeper roots in history, including the slower hasapiko and the faster hasaposerviko.

Today, despite its relatively recent origins, the syrtaki is truly an integral part of Greek folk culture and is often danced at celebrations and gatherings for weddings and other cultural events.

The dance video of Anthony Hopkins is also accompanied by a beautiful message to his fans and online friends: “Dance like no one is watching,” the Hollywood star says.

Anthony Hopkins is well known for his carefree and spirited attitude towards life, and his Instagram video in which he is seen dancing Greek syrtaki is not his only such video, as he has shared his love for dance on social media before.

During the COVID-19 lockdown four years ago, his Instagram account became a true source of entertainment for many people who had no other means of entertaining themselves during unprecedented times.

At that time, Anthony Hopkins regularly posted videos of himself engaging in various activities at home. These inspired many followers to do the same. His previous dance videos, including one featuring the Latin American Cumbia, have also received widespread positive acclaim and hundreds of thousands of views on Instagram as well as on other social media platforms.
