Batman makes history as he becomes the first superhero to be honored with a Walk of Fame star in Hollywood. DC Comic’s premiere superhero got his star at 6764 Boulevard in Hollywood right before the Guinness World Records Museum on Thursday, September 26th.
Michael Empric, an adjudicator from the Guinness World Records, will attend the ceremony to certify this unprecedented achievement.
Hollywood Walk of Fame producer Ana Martinez commented on the achievement, saying, “The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is proud to honor our first superhero on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The one and only Batman!”
Martinez added, “Fans will be thrilled to know that Batman will have his own star alongside those of television Batman, Adam West, and Batman co-creator, Bob Kane.”
Top DC executives will be present when Batman is awarded the Walk of Fame star
The ceremony to award Batman the Walk of Fame star will be attended by top DC executives such as Jim Lee, who is the president, editor, and creative director of the comic company, and Anne DePies.
CEO of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, Steve Nissen, will be in charge of the ceremony. It is worth mentioning that Batman will get the 2,790th star on the Walk of Fame.
Batman is without a doubt one of the most—if not the most—well-known superheroes of the twentieth century and will be deservedly honored for the character’s contributions to pop culture since its introduction in 1939.
He will join other significant fictional characters that already have stars on the Walk of Fame, such as Mickey Mouse, Kermit the Frog, and Shrek, and will become the first superhero to get this recognition.
How did Batman become a pop culture icon?
Batman made his first appearance in 1939’s Detective Comics #27, and, ever since, he has not left the mainstream spotlight. The Hollywood Walk of Fame described the caped crusader as a “symbol of determination, courage, and justice to generations of fans for more than 85 years.”
According to the statement, “Batman is one of the most iconic fictional characters in the world and a self-made Superhero, notable not for his superpowers but for his intelligence, determination, and tech-savvy.”
Besides his social impact, Batman has transcended the comic book medium and has been adapted as a character in movies, cartoons, graphic novels, and even anime.
The Dark Knight’s impact on pop culture is almost immeasurable, as his character has left us with iconic comic book storylines like Alan Moore’s The Killing Joke and other iconic ones such as The Long Halloween and The Dark Knight Returns.
More recently, Batman impacted audiences through movies like The Batman and the legendary Cristopher Nolan film, The Dark Knight, making the character more than deserving of a Walk of Fame star.
