A 47-year-old British tourist on holiday in Crete was killed in a horrendous crash after a driver hit a family as they walked down the road.
The 47-year-old woman was in the town of Chania, Crete, with her husband and in-laws on Friday afternoon when the driver lost control of his car and ran over the woman and her 54-year-old sister-in-law, according to local reports.
The woman reportedly sustained a head injury and was taken by ambulance while still conscious to Rethymnon Hospital in the town of Rethymno, where she died a few hours later. The sister-in-law suffered serious abrasions to her arms and legs.
An image captured the car – a silver Peugeot – in a field next to an olive tree. Hellenic Police in Crete are investigating the incident with the female tourist.

The dreadful fall happened in Laganas, a well-known tourist destination. Earlier on the same day, another British tourist had fallen off a balcony and was taken to the same hospital – he was inflicted with severe injuries but survived.

Another Tourist Death in Crete
Late last month during the heatwave a series of tourist deaths occurred on various Greek islands. One was a 67-year-old German tourist who was found dead after embarking on a hike in a mountainous region of Crete.
His body was found in a ravine in the south of the White Mountains (Lefka Ori) between Sougia and Agia Roumeli in the prefecture of Chania near the beach of Sendoni.
According to local reporters, the man left his hotel where he stayed with his wife on Sunday for a hike. In the early afternoon, he called her to ask for help, as he said he was injured.
His wife informed the fire brigade and then, after consultation, the 67-year-old called the emergency number 112 so that the rescuers could locate him.
Several tourists have already passed away in the extreme heat engulfing Greece over the last couple of weeks, including British TV presenter Michael Mosley, who went missing on the island of Symi in early June after embarking on a long walk. His body was detected several days later.
Albert Calibet, a 59-year-old man who is a retired Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy, went missing on the Greek island of Amorgos on June 11th.
