Did you ever wish you could play a multiplayer game about Greek mythology? Great news, this is exactly what Dawn of Defiance is. With this game, players will get to experience a Greek Mythology-inspired multiplayer sandbox.

The game features a cast of four players who try to become gods (or god-like anti-heroes) in ancient Greece.

The developer describes the premise of Dawn of Defiance as follows: “Discontent brews in the underworld, and by the hand of Charon, you have been spared death and brought to a lost shore to be tested.”

Dawn of Defiance’s gameplay

Dawn of Defiance’s gameplay seems to be similar to that of other survival games such as Ark or Minecraft.

The game will have players gathering materials, crafting tools, and weapons, and leveling up while exploring mythological ruins and biomes.

The endgame is completing the trials of the Olympians and stealing knowledge from the gods to increase your own power.

The Developer, Traega Entertainment estimates Dawn of Defiance’s early access will likely run for two years.

This is because the current build of the game does feature the first major biome, but lacks narrative, as it is still under development.

The good news is that players can access the first tiers of crafting and building their own characters while experiencing puzzles and challenges to unlock crafting recipes.

The game is on sale until August 29, 2024

Even though Dawn of Defiance is still in early access, players can buy the game for $15 until August 29, 2024. After that, the game will cost $20 for those who want to experience life in ancient Greece.

Importantly, the studio has pointed out that the game’s price will rise as updates are rolled out. The studio says the current price is a “reward” for those who want to risk buying the game ahead of time.

Dawn of Defiance is not the first Greek mythology-inspired game, but adds to the genre

Greek Mythology is really cool. The characters and stories in Greek Mythology have captivated audiences for millennia, and video games are a perfect medium for newer generations to experience the stories and culture from ancient Greece.

Some games that have made these epic stories justice include “Age of Mythology” and the “God of War” series among many others.

Age of Mythology was a wildly successful game released by Microsoft in the early 2000s. The real-time strategy game featured gods from Greek Mythology, alongside gods from every other mythology, and let the player fight epic battles amongst other players and the CPU.

The “God of War” franchise features the adventures of Kratos, while he fights gods in a variety of mythologies. This has been one of Play Station and Sony’s most successful video game franchises.
