Former US President Donald Trump issued another statement on Sunday morning, following the tragic events of his assassination attempt that unfolded in Pennsylvania on Saturday afternoon local time.
Trump thanked his supporters for sending their thoughts and prayers after the shootings.
”God alone was who prevented the unthinkable from happening” the former President noted, referring to his luck of leaving the scene with only minor injuries on his right ear.
“We will FEAR NOT, but instead remain resilient in our Faith and Defiant in the face of Wickedness” he added, emphasizing the lack of fear that he and his supporters should show following the events.
”Our love goes out to the other victims and their families,” he said adding that he prays for the recovery of those who were wounded.
”We hold in our hands the memory of the citizen who was so horribly killed” Trump stated referring to the only fatality that came as a result of the bullets that were fired, allegedly towards him, during his rally yesterday.
In a calming message, the former US President asked for unity. ”It is more important than ever that we stand united and show our true character as Americans.”
Trump added that evil should not be allowed to win.
Trump assassination attempt perpetrator named
The FBI identified 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks from Pennsylvania as the suspect involved in the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.
The tragic incident that left one dead and several injured, including Trump, took place on Saturday at a Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
The shooting, which occurred around 6:15 PM local time took place whilst Trump was delivering a speech. This left the former president with an injury to his right ear and tragically resulted in the death of one attendee of the rally and critical injuries to two other individuals who were nearby to watch the speech of the former President.
Biden condemns the attack
Minutes after the incident, US President Joe Biden expressed his strong condemnation of the assassination attempt.
”I have been briefed on the shooting at Donald Trump’s rally in Pennsylvania. I’m grateful to hear that he’s safe and doing well,” Biden said in his first statement after the incident.
”I’m praying for him and his family and for all those who were at the rally, as we await further information. Jill and I are grateful to the Secret Service for getting him to safety,” he added.
”There’s no place for this kind of violence in America. We must unite as one nation to condemn it,” the American President concluded as he and his campaign now have to readjust their strategy in the face of the tragic events that unfolded on Saturday.
