A Dutch woman has been missing on Greece’s island of Samos since Thursday, local authorities said.
The 65-year-old Dutch woman went missing yesterday after going on a hike.
According to local media Samos Voice, the woman told a friend that she would like to go around the Tunnel of Eupalinos, also known as the Eupalinian Aqueduct to walk around it and then return to Pythagoreio, where she was staying in a hotel.
A rescue team from the Greek police, the local Fire Brigade and volunteers began their search after that friend informed the authorities that the Dutch woman was not answering her calls, had switched her phone off and did not return after the hike.
Earlier in June, a 74-year-old Dutch man had been missing, when he disappeared while hiking between the areas of Limnionas and Klima, in the southwest of Samos.
Unfortunately, he was later found dead.
Dutch woman not the only one missing in Greece
Earlier this year, in June, a man from the United Kingdom was found dead at the Old Port on the picturesque island of Spetses. The unfortunate man was 44 years old and had visited the island to take part in the Classic Regatta that was taking place on the island at that time.
A few weeks later, a 67-year-old German tourist also went missing on Greece’s largest island, Crete. Unfortunately, soon after, the man was also found dead.
In July, a young man from South Africa, who was working in one of the boat companies on the island and disappeared after he went for a swim., was found dead days later.
A man from Canada is also missing in Greece’s northern town of Litochoro, near Mount Olympus. The man from Mississauga has been missing in Greece for weeks. He has been missing since July 12th even though there have been accounts of people who claim to have since seen him.
Missing man on Rhodes found dead
Another tourist went missing this week. On Wednesday, a man from the United Kingdom was declared missing on Greece’s popular island destination of Rhodes. The unfortunate 48-year-old British tourist was enjoying the sunshine on Theologos Beach before tragedy struck.
According to local media, the body of the man was spotted by a visitor on Paradisi Beach about two kilometers from the area of Theologos beach. The body was transferred to the General Hospital of Rhodes, where doctors declared him dead.
The British tourist, who was vacationing with his family on Rhodes, went to Theologos Beach with his niece for a swim. His niece left the beach early to return to the hotel, however she soon realized that her uncle had not returned.
