The Paris 2024 Olympics kicked off on Friday, July 26th with much controversy due to a performance that parodied Leonardo da Vinci’s The Last Supper with drag queens and other non-traditional performers. This led Elon Musk and other public figures to voice their discontent with what they could only describe as a “woke” Last Supper Parody at the Olympics inauguration.
The Last Supper is a painting that depicts Jesus at his final supper with his apostles the night prior to his crucifixion. It is considered to be a holy scene for Christians all over the world. Hence, the Olympics scene was at least somewhat shocking to devout Christians.
The performance featured drag queens and a blue-painted man in a revealing outfit parodying Jesus and his apostles.
Through a statement to The Telegraph, the organizers of the Paris Olympics have defended the performance saying, “Clearly, there was never an intention to show disrespect towards any religious group or belief.”
Elon Musk: “This was disrespectful to Christians”
Elon Musk is on the frontlines against online woke culture. He has been at the forefront of many controversies regarding woke talking points and has expressed himself on the topic, saying that this ideology is degrading Western civilization.
He used his X account to express his thoughts on the “woke” Last Supper performance. “This was extremely disrespectful to Christians,” he wrote. After images comparing the performance at the Olympics and the actual painting began surfacing online, Musk once again used his X account to tweet: “Christianity has become toothless.” He replied to memes and critical analysis of the performance, expressing his discontent.
Musk believes X user @Devon_Eriksen_ offered an “interesting analysis” of how modern Hollywood and last night’s woke last supper performance at the Olympics could be explained through narcissism. However, his discomfort did not stop there. Elon Musk also replied to an X post by American swimmer Riley Gaines. Gaines had written: “I’m begging you to please stop the blasphemous fat men in dresses and wigs on my timeline.”
Musk simply replied with a prayer sign emoji, showing his approval of Gaines’ post.
Another athlete has joined Elon Musk’s criticism of the Last Supper performance at the Olympics
Elon Musk and Riley Gaines were not the only prominent figures to criticize the woke Last Supper performance at the Paris 2024 Olympics inauguration ceremony.
Kansas City Chiefs Kicker Harrison Butker was also vocal about the performance at the Olympics. On his X account, Butker reposted a video of the performance with a bible verse, Galatians 6:7-8, as the caption. It reads: “Be not deceived, God is not mocked. For what things a man shall sow, those also shall he reap.”
