Greece opened the parade of athletes for the Paris Olympics closing ceremony on Sunday evening.
Emmanouil Karalis and Evangelia Platanioti were the Greek flag-bearers, with Greece, as usual, entering the stadium first. Greece, where the first Olympics were held more than 2,700 years ago, is the birthplace of the Olympics.
The closing ceremony of the Paris Olympics
It seems the Paris Olympics flew by. Thousands of athletes from around the world stunned the globe with their athletic feats and strength, and the 2024 Summer Olympics will soon be but a distant memory. The closing ceremony is the official end of this spectacular athletic event which lasted for over two weeks.
The event is being held in the spectacular Stade de France in Paris with approximately 80,000 spectators watching the event live and millions of people joining them from around the world in front of their TVs.
The organizers of the French Olympics have promised the world a visual, choreographic, and acrobatic show that will stay in history.
There have been many rumours circulating the internet in the last few days about who and what we need to expect from the show.
So far we know that there will be a handover to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics organizers, which might include many American stars being present.
The LA 2028 organisers have also confirmed that the Red Hot Chili Peppers along with Billie Eilish and Snoop Dogg will be involved in the performance.
The Greek flag-bearer duo
Emmanouil Karalis and Evangelia Platanioti were the flag-bearers for Greece, bearing the honor and the responsibility of holding the flag of the nation high for the world to see.
Karalis won a bronze medal for Greece last Monday in the pole vault competition that took place in Paris as part of the athletics events of the 2024 Summer Olympics.
Platanioti won 6th place for Greece along with Sofia Malkogeorgou in the women’s duet during the free routine final of artistic swimming.
Gold Medalist Tentoglou Greece’s Flag-Bearer at LA Olympics?
Greece’s only gold medalist in this year’s Olympics Miltiadis Tentoglou was offered the choice to be the flag bearer tonight, however, media reports suggested that he respectfully refused.
It was this refusal from Tentoglou that led Karalis and Platanioti to become the nation’s flag bearer on Sunday evening in Paris.
”I want to make my country proud by standing at the top of the podium. I would like to be Greece’s flag bearer at the Los Angeles Olympics, if possible and if nobody else wants to do it,” the 26-year-old Tentoglou said at a sponsorship event that was held a few days ago, making it public that he hopes to raise the Greek flag in 2028 in the Californian capital.
