American Airlines is starting a new direct flight from Charlotte to Athens next year. They announced this news on September 5th. Service will begin June 5, 2025, between Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) and Athens International Airport (ATH).

American will have four daily flights to Greece— more than any other airline, according to the company, already linking the Greek capital with New York City, Philadelphia and Chicago.

American Airlines Charlotte-Greece flight will be seasonal

The Charlotte flight will be seasonal and using a Boeing 777 aircraft, running from June 2025 through September 2025, according to the airline.

“New service to Athens gives our customers the opportunity to experience the rich culture and cuisine of Greece, step back in time among ancient ruins, and venture to the beautiful Greek islands,” Ralph Lopez Massas, American’s senior vice president of Charlotte operations stated in a news release.

“American’s continued growth reinforces our commitment to Charlotte and its important role in connecting customers from the Southeast U.S. to our global network.”

Greece is a popular destination for American travelers. In recent years, it has become one of the favorite destinations for Americans due to its rich history, stunning landscapes, beautiful islands, and Mediterranean climate.

The allure of ancient sites like the Acropolis in Athens, picturesque islands like Santorini and Mykonos, and delicious Greek cuisine have made Greece a top choice for American tourists.

In addition, Greece’s friendly atmosphere, relatively affordable prices compared to other European destinations, and improved travel accessibility have further boosted its appeal.

Greece recognized as the top travel destination for the Americans

The American Airlines announcement comes after Greece has once again been recognized as a top travel destination, earning the title of ‘Favorite Country’ for the fifth consecutive year at The Trazees 2024, a prestigious American tourism and travel awards ceremony.

This accolade, awarded by readers of Trazee Travel, highlights Greece’s sustained appeal, particularly among millennial travelers – a demographic that significantly influences travel trends.

The Trazees, produced by FXExpress Publications, Inc., in collaboration with Global Traveler magazine, focus on travelers aged 25-40, known for their adventurous and dynamic travel preferences. Achieving the Favorite Country title for five consecutive years has earned Greece the esteemed ‘Quint Status’, a rare distinction that underscores the country’s consistent excellence as a travel destination.

In addition to being named the Favorite Country, Greece also ranked second in the ‘Favorite Honeymoon Destination’ category at The Trazees 2024, further cementing its status as a versatile and desirable travel destination.
