The Greek-born princess of Dubai has shocked the United Arab Emirates after she filed for divorce from her husband, a businessman, with a post on Instagram.
Her Highness Sheikha Mahra Bint Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, began the divorce procedures only two months after the couple welcomed their first child.
In her Instagram message, 30-year-old Princess Sheikha Mahra Bint Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum wrote: “My dear husband, as you are occupied with other companions, I hereby declare our divorce. I divorce you, I divorce you, and I Divorce You. Take care. Your ex-wife.”

Repeating the phrase three times is considered a triple declaration of talaq, or, in other words, triple repudiation with the aim of dissolution of a marriage. Triple talaq is the practice under which a Muslim man can divorce his wife by simply uttering “talaq” three times.
Usually, Muslim women do not use the triple talaq. In this case, the act of the Princess of Dubai is an empowering move and very rare in Muslim societies.
Nevertheless, the Princess of Dubai made the bold decision to expose the infidelity of her husband, Sheikh Mana bin Mohammed bin Rashid bin Mana Al Maktoum, and then unfollow him on Instagram, while she removed all his pictures from her profile. On his part, he replied by unfollowing her, too.
Sheikha Mahra married Sheikh Mana in May 2023, and, 12 months later, the royal couple welcomed their daughter to the world. A few weeks ago, however, the Dubai princess uploaded a photo of herself holding her daughter with the message “just the two of us.”
The Greek mother of the Dubai princess
Sheikha Mahra’s mother is Zoe Grigorakou, originally from Sparta. She was married to the current Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, with whom she is now divorced.
The 30-year-old Dubai princess has posted several photos of her mother on her Instagram account where she also announced their divorce. Last year, Zoe Grigorakou was by her daughter’s side during her graduation from a London university.
In 2023, when the iconic Burj Khalifa skyscraper in Dubai was painted in the Greek flag colors for the March 25th national holiday, the 30-year-old Dubai princess posted a photo of the iconic building in blue and white with a blue heart next to it.
Two months later, the couple chose to spend their honeymoon in Greece after their wedding in May 2023. Sheikha Mahra and Sheikh Mana visited Mykonos and enjoyed their time there taking many pictures and jet skiing, among other things.
The House of Maktoum is the ruling royal family of the Emirate of Dubai and one of the six ruling families of the United Arab Emirates.
