The Embraer E195-E2 aircraft departed at 2:38 PM from Athens, Greece and landed at the Skiathos airport only half an hour later. The Airport Fire Service welcomed it with the water arch.
An official lunch followed at a well-known hotel on the island, and departure for Athens is set for 9 PM local time.
The aircraft completed a demonstration flight with numerous airline CEOs on board, including the ambassador of Brazil and Skiathos tourism officials.

Embraer Commercial Aviation’s single-class aircraft accommodates up to 136 passengers with four seats per row. They are powered by Pratt & Whitney engines, which consume less fuel while operating at a longer range, emitting less CO2.
The Embraer E195-E2 is one of the most impressive commercial jets in the world, and it is also known as the quietest aircraft with under 150 seats. Embraer designed and produced the E-Jet E2 family as a series of four-abreast narrow-body airliners. This twinjet is an incremental development of the original E-Jet family.
The E190-E2 variant’s maiden flight was on May 23, 2016, and flight testing proceeded smoothly with minimal issues. The aircraft received certification on February 28, 2018 and entered service with launch customer Widerøe on April 24th of that year. In April 2019, the larger E195-E2 received its certification, and Azul Brazilian Airlines became the first airline to operate the model.
E195-E2 aircraft specifications and achievements
The E195-E2 is 2.85 meters (over 9ft) longer than the E195, allowing for an additional three seat rows and accommodating up to 146 seats.
The variant rolled out on March 7, 2017, with Azul confirmed as its launch operator. It made its first flight on March 29, 2017 ahead of the originally planned second half of the year. Embraer showcased the prototype at the Paris Air Show in June 2017 and aimed for it to enter service in the first half of 2019.
By January 2019, preliminary results from the flight-test program indicated that the E195-E2 might slightly exceed the original specifications at introduction. It received certification on April 15, 2019 and has a fuel burn 1.4 percent lower than initially specified and 25.4 percent more efficient per seat compared to the E195. Binter Canarias became its European launch customer, receiving delivery in late 2019.
On September 12, 2019, Embraer delivered the first E195-E2 to Azul through lessor AerCap. It was configured with 136 seats in a single class. On July 22, 2022, an E195-E2 landed at London City Airport (LCY) for the first time. The variant received EASA certification in November 2023, becoming the largest aircraft approved to operate from the small Skiathos airport.
The E195-E2 produces a “whale sound” during takeoff and landing, caused by the engine resonating the combustion chamber at a specific frequency.
