Grimau’s team’s impressive second quarter was enough to bend Lenovo Tenerife.
Lenovo Tenerife’s Copa del Rey adventure has come to an end. The yellow-blacks couldn’t contain Barça’s endless offensive arsenal and ended up falling deservedly in the Copa del Rey Semifinals (108-76). The Blaugrana’s second quarter was key to the outcome of the tie. The 40-8 in favor of the Catalans sealed the game before halftime.
The match started at the Martín Carpena in the worst possible way for the Canary representative. A 7-0 partial in favor was the introduction of the Catalans in the early stages of the contest. The low percentage from beyond the arc was taking its toll on the islanders as they crafted plays perfectly, but the ball didn’t go into the opponent’s basket. However, this trend changed as the minutes went by. Marcelinho took control of the Tenerife game and thanks to a spectacular burst, Canarias ended the first quarter leading on the scoreboard (14-16).
The second act began repeating the start of the match. Grimau’s men stepped on the accelerator again and once again the yellow-blacks suffered a severe partial that cost them dearly on the scoreboard (25-16). Hernangómez and Parker grew in the game while Vidorreta’s pupils couldn’t find spaces like in the first period. So the movie was starting to turn into a horror one. Despite the timeouts requested by Txus, the bleeding of the Los Majuelos boys didn’t stop and halftime arrived with the Semifinals practically decided (54-24).
The start of the second half maintained what had been seen so far. Barça played conservatively with the comfortable lead they had and the exchange of blows was constant at the Martín Carpena. The differences always hovered around thirty digits. This made it clear that the Canarian comeback was almost impossible. This dynamic continued over time and the third act ended leaving little story for the final ten minutes (78-48).
The last chapter of the Semifinals began with nothing to decide. The Blaugranas had taken care of finishing the movie before halftime and the Canarians limited themselves to decorating the scoreboard until the end of the match. In the end, Vidorreta’s team fell clearly (108-76). Still, Lenovo Tenerife will return to the island with good sensations as they have completed a remarkable performance in the 2024 edition of the Copa del Rey. This team continues to excite the entire island. Once again, Canarias made the Santiago Martín dream.
