Nicolas Cage new movie shot in Greece

Greece is no new filming destination to Nicolas Cage. He has previously filmed Captain Corelli’s Mandolin on the island of Kefalonia in the Eptanese, where he co-starred with Penelope Cruz and Christian Bale.

The star’s new film, The Carpenter’s Son, which explores the childhood of Jesus Christ, started filming in Greece in September.

The set location is a remote area on a mountainous near the ancient city of Megara, south of Athens, on the way to the Peloponnese peninsula.

The entire area, once a refuge for the town’s inhabitants during times of peril, has been transformed into a biblical village to accommodate the narrative of the film, which is described as a thriller movie.

Nicolas Cage shoots two horror films in a year

According to DeadlineThe Carpenter’s Son tells the dark story of a family hiding out in Roman Egypt. The son, known only as ‘the Boy,’ is driven to doubt by another mysterious child and rebels against his guardian, the Carpenter, revealing inherent powers and a fate beyond his comprehension. As he exercises his power, the Boy and his family become the target of horrors, both natural and divine.

The screenplay was inspired by the apocryphal Infancy Gospel of Thomas, dating back to the 2nd Century AD.

Nicolas Cage stars as The Carpenter, while FKA Twigs co-stars as the Mother, and Noah Jupe as The Boy.

This is the second horror movie Nicolas Cage has starred in this year following Arcadian, a 2024 post-apocalyptic action horror film directed by Benjamin Brewer from a screenplay by Michael Nilon.

Nicolas Cage plays the father of two teenage boys, all trying to survive in a post-apocalyptic world. The film is an international co-production between the United States, Canada, and Ireland.

Arcadian premiered at South by Southwest on March 11, 2024, followed by a theatrical release in the United States on April 12, 2024, by RLJE Films. The film received generally favorable reviews from critics.
