Rafaella Pitsikali battled a disease called Ewing’s Sarcoma since 2020.
The 21-year-old Rafaela Pitsikali, a girl from Chania, passed away after a long fight against cancer. She courageously faced Ewing’s Sarcoma in 2020 and left this world a few days after her 21st birthday.
In their online messages, friends say, “The Smiling Girl, with unparalleled courage, is no longer among us.”
In August 2023, as reported by Hania.news, she traveled to the USA to receive treatment at a specialized center in Houston, accompanied by her mother.
To make this trip possible, a fundraising campaign was launched, which received significant support. Despite her challenging journey, she constantly shared content from the hospital on social media, maintaining her smile.
Her last post was on New Year’s Eve, where she appeared visibly weakened but continued to send messages of hope.

Rafaella Pitsikali’s Battle with Cancer:
The life of the Pitsikali family changed dramatically in June 2020 when 17-year-old Rafaela, then from Chania, was admitted to Attikon Hospital with intense pain and little response to painkillers. The diagnosis changed her entire life: Ewing’s Sarcoma.
Since then, she fought daily, with courage and a smile, supported by her family and fellow citizens, in a very tough battle. Chemotherapy, hospital stays – a long period at the “Hope” Oncological Hospital, surgery in Greece to remove the tumor.
In October 2021, there was the first relapse, which was treated with a second intervention and radiation therapy.
Unfortunately, in May 2023, there was a second relapse.
After the doctors decided that a new intervention could not be performed in Greece, Rafaela’s family decided to turn to Cancer Centers abroad. Thus, on August 8, 2023, Rafaela’s visit to the specialized MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, USA, was scheduled, where she stayed until she took her last breath.
