Donald Trump officially became the Republican nominee on Monday at the 2024 Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, where he picked JD Vance as his running mate for the upcoming November US Presidential election.

Trump made the announcement about his Vice Presidential candidate on his Truth social media platform two days after his assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania.

If former President Trump wins the race and becomes President again next January, Vance will become the Vice President of the nation.

Who is JD Vance, Trump’s vice president nominee?

JD Vance, born James Donald Bowman, is from Middletown, Ohio and is relatively new to the federal political landscape of the United States. He has been serving as junior Senator of Ohio since 2023. His political career is relatively short compared to others who were believed to have had good chances of being picked by Trump as his running mate.

Vance grew up in a working-class family with deep Appalachian roots. The mother of the Vice Presidential candidate struggled with addiction for years, so young James Donald was mainly raised by his grandmother.

After finishing high school, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was later deployed to Iraq. Following his return to the US, Vance attended the Ohio State University. He graduated with a degree in political science and philosophy and later earned a law degree from Yale Law School.

In 2016, JD Vance became nationally known and a popular figure following the publication of his memoir Hillbilly Elegy. Vance mentioned his upbringing and the challenges he faced as part of the white working class of modern-day America.

The book became a bestseller and attracted significant attention during the 2016 presidential election. It was the election that shocked the world with outsider Donald Trump beating the seasoned Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton.

After working as a venture capitalist, Vance entered the world of politics and aligned himself with Donald Trump despite his criticism in the past.

Trump’s classified documents case dismissed

Donald Trump has been dominating global news in the last three days with a landmark legal case against him being dismissed by a Florida judge on Monday.

Judge Cannon issued her ruling that the appointment of Special Counsel Jack Smith was not appropriate and violated the Appointments Clause of the American Constitution in the infamous classified documents case against former President Trump. According to the judge’s rationale, this resulted in the effective nullification of the prosecution against the former President.

In this 2022 case, Trump was accused of illegally retaining classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago estate. Additionally, Trump allegedly obstructed FBI efforts to recover these documents in their search for the truth.
