A 33-year-old Swiss tourist in Greece died unexpectedly while on a day cruise on Symi island.
The man reportedly lost consciousness as the boat sailed between Agios Georgios Dysalonas and the port of Symi.
A doctor from a local clinic rushed on board to offer first aid as soon as the vessel docked, but it was already too late for the young vacationer. He was taken to the Health Center of Symi, where he was pronounced dead.
A preliminary investigation around the man’s death is underway by the Port Authority of Symi, and a post-mortem will be carried out on Rhodes.
Dutch tourist missing on Samos island
On the island of Samos, a 65-year-old Dutch tourist has been missing since Thursday, August 22nd.
The woman, Brigitte Van Gennip, had informed a friend that she would be leaving from her accommodation at Pythagorion to tour around the outside of the Eupalinian aqueduct, a tunnel of 1,036 meters in length running through Mount Kastro. She said she would be returning to Pythagorion after her walk but never returned.
The Hellenic Police, the Hellenic Fire Service with its special forest search unit, and the Hellenic Rescue Team on Saturday continued to search for the missing tourist for the third day, assisted by a dog, a drone team, and the local hikers club.
According to Greek public broadcaster ERT, the main hiking trail, smaller trails, and other tourist spots have all been searched without result.
Missing British tourist found dead on Rhodes
Meanwhile, a British tourist who was vacationing with his family on Rhodes, was found dead after he had gone missing on Theologos Beach on Wednesday.
The 48-year-old man was on the beach for a swim with his niece, who left early for their accommodation. When, after hours had passed. she realized that her uncle might not be returning, she returned to the area where she had last seen him, but he was nowhere to be found. The family then notified authorities.
According to local media, the body of the man was spotted the following day by a citizen on Paradisi Beach about two kilometers from Theologos.
Earlier this summer, there have been several cases of foreign tourists who went missing on Greek islands amidst a heatwave. Sadly, most of them were found dead days later.
The most publicized case was that of BBC presenter Michael Mosley, who was found dead on the island of Symi on June 9th after a five-day-long search.
